Boris Johnson paid a visit to ‘Disposable Green.’ The brand showcased their compostable product range: they explained how they’re combatting single-use plastic.

Disposable Green (a Ruislip-based business) designs, creates, and makes affordable products crafted out of earth-friendly alternatives, including areca palm leaf, and sugarcane bagasse. Then there’s their NEXTGEN coffee cups and takeaway range, – all of which can be composted at home.
Staggeringly, Disposable Green’s compostable plates can be used in the oven, in the microwave, and in the refrigerator. Boris was SHOCKED to hear how used items are recycled back into nature within 60 days. The Founders also showcased their unique leaf straws, which can last up to 8 hours without getting soggy.
The special visit was part of an appeal to the Prime Minister, – to show how the brand can successfully honour the EU’s directive to ban all single-use tableware, and to provide sustainable alternatives, instead. In other-words, the earth-friendly business welcomed last year’s ban on single-use plastic straws with open arms, and they’ve devised a solution.
Consequently, Boris both appreciated and admired Disposable Green’s revolutionary approach: he applauded the duo’s ingenuity. To show his support, the UK Prime Minister has agreed to work with Disposable Green on future initiatives: he’s going to consider them for grants to expedite their work. Amongst these initiatives, will be a ‘call-to-arms’ for a new UK-wide, single-home composability ‘standard.’

This is perfect timing, considering that Disposable Green has ambitious plans to scale up their innovations with their NEXTGEN range.
The NEXTGEN single-use coffee cup and takeaway range provides a clear solution for recyclability and composting, WITHOUT needing any additional processes (the products are made with an proprietary aqueous coating). The ceremony concluded with a special rainforest card detailing a ‘thank you,’ created by Avik Gandhi – the six-year-old son of Disposable Green’s Founders Santosh and Suman, – which was given to Boris, of course.
Disposable Green’s Founders, Suman and Santosh were brought up in a humble background in India before moving to the United Kingdom. Prior to setting up their business, Suman previously worked as a Merchandiser with various garment manufacturers, both in India, and in the UK. The brand was conceptualised in 2014, but it was officially set up in 2017.
Their brand ethos takes its roots from the Founders’ environment, where almost everything is used to the maximum life, and in the end, – is either recycled or sent back to nature, naturally.
